First United Methodist Church

The Church Council of the First United Methodist Church of Baxter Springs met on Wednesday, February 4, 2010 in the fellowship hall at the church.

Ron chairman opened the meeting. Rev. Handle opened the meeting with a prayer.

Minutes were read by Debra due to the absence of Anna Lee. Denny made a motion to accept the minutes as read and Stacy seconded. Motion carried.

Debra, treasurer, reported a balance of $41,159.27. All bills are paid. A report from Mense was passed around. Stacy moved the treasurer’s report be accepted. Janet. seconded. Motion carried.

Old Business:

Pastor Wayne stated that the Parsons District Leadership training had been canceled due to weather. He is unsure when it will be rescheduled.

Stacy reported that three people from the church went to the Lay Speaking Seminar on January 15^th and 16^th. Pam has completed the local lay speaker training. Dorothy and Stacy are the other two that attended.

New Business:

Debra stated that the church received a bill for the second payment of $2000 for the Bridges to the Future Campaign. Janet made a motion that we pay the $2000 to the Bridges to the Future Campaign. Stacy seconded. Motion carried.

Evangelism/Outreach Committee: Dorothy, Chairperson- we have collected and assembled 103 health kits for Haiti. Pastor Wayne delivered them Tuesday. We will still collect health kits for Haiti through the month of February.

Worship/Music Committee: Janet, Chairperson- we will meet Sunday February 7^th after the Fellowship Dinner. Worship Leaders have been set for the year.

Memorial/Scholarship: Lillian, Chairperson- we met last week. We will be putting a brochure together and we have funds that we need to determine what to purchase with.

Trustees: Denny , Chairperson- we have several projects that we are working on they include: water at the parsonage, men’s bathroom sinks, A/C needs fixed before the warm weather starts, and the front doors of the church are cracking.

SPPRC: Haven’t meet yet.

Finance: Pastor Wayne reported that Finance met this evening and they would like to move Finance and Church Council meetings to the 3^rd Wednesday of the month instead of the 1^st Wednesday of the month and move the Trustees meeting to the 1^st Wednesday of the month. This is due to when the CPA receives our bank statements. It is hard to give a balance without verification. Lynn made a motion to move the Church Council meetings to the 3^rd Wednesday of the month. Ray seconded. Motion carried. The next Church Council meeting will be March 17, 2010 at 7 p.m.

Pastor’s Report: Pastor Wayne will be gone March 8^th-12^th to Mount Sequoyah Retreat Center in Fayetteville, AR for a Small Church Leadership Institute. This institute will help him in obtaining his CCU’s.

Janet announced that she is starting on the Church audits and if you haven’t given her your checkbooks and records she will need them ASAP.

Pastor Wayne reported that there would be an Endowment meeting after the United Methodist Men’s dinner Thursday night.

Ray, United Methodist Men’s President stated that they would have a meeting Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Change of time is due to the Beyond 30 Second Bible Study.

Dorothy, United Methodist Women President stated that they would have a meeting on Wednesday, February 10^th at 6:30 p.m.

Stacy reported that the Beyond 30 Seconds Bible Study is about halfway through.

Pastor Wayne reported that the Lenten Bible Study would start February 14^th.
